Reasons for our society name & what we want to do as a society

We have named our society 'Gandhi Soc' in an attempt to move away from the traditional form of societies and move to a more modern and multi-cultural society which embraces members from all backgrounds. The society is about embracing all aspects of Indian culture but in little amounts so that people are more interested and don't just turn a blind eye to our culture. We hope that the name has not offended anyone; we are just adapting an icon of indian culture in order to make people feel that its not an indian society purely for indians.

As a society we are tying to bring people together from different ethnic backgrounds in a social environment and in doing so learn parts of our culture through our functions. We would like to believe that this society is open to anyone of any age; the events are not focused on any particular age group and we believe that they can be attended by anyone.

Our Main Objectives Include:

1. Meet new people, this is a priority we want to meet new people who
originate from India as well as around the world.
2. Let people experience our culture as we have experienced there's. We want
to show people aspects of our culture through our social events.
3. Bring people together in a multi-cultural atmosphere. We want a society
which incorporates people from all over the world, be it from Britain or from
    China.
4. Let people experience the different festivals throughout the year, we
want to make it an open ended approach to introducing little things about our
festivals and not over load them with knowledge about our festivals!
5. We want our members to also enjoy the varieties of food and drink found in
India. There are so many different kinds of foods and drinks available in
different parts of India; there is also a huge appreciation for Indian food in the
    UK.
